WonderBites #8 : Hair loss...what's the story?

Hair loss…what’s the story?

Hair loss can happen to anyone – men, women and children.
Some people may allow their hair loss to run its
course while others may use scarves, hats or medical interventions to deal with it.
Excessive hair loss from the scalp may result in baldness.
Causes

1.    Hormonal factors
  • hereditary or hormonal imbalance

2.    Medical conditions
  • thyroid, scalp infections, skin disorders or disease of the hair follicle

3.     Medications
  • cancer
  • arthritis
  • depression
  • heart problems
  • high blood pressure

4.    Others
  • lack of nutrition
  • physical or emotional shock
  • hair-pulling disorder
  • hair hygiene
  • dandruff
Prevention
Hair loss that is caused by medicines, stress, lack of protein or iron, or hair care may be prevented.

Avoiding certain medicines, reducing stress, getting adequate protein and iron in your diet, and using hairstyles that do not damage your hair may reduce or prevent hair loss.

Inherited hair loss cannot be prevented.
